The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, announced on Thursday that 11,566 police officers previously assigned to Very Important Personalities (VIPs) will be withdrawn, following a presidential directive.
During a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, Egbetokun stated that the presidential order empowers him to carry out this directive without interference. He emphasized that no VIP would be permitted to contest the recall of their security personnel, as the instruction comes directly from the President.
Egbetokun urged both Nigerians and police officers to adhere to the Presidential Order and to embrace community policing initiatives. He highlighted the importance of professionalism and commitment among police officers in securing the nation, stressing the need for continuous efforts to prevent criminal activities across the country.
The IGP also reassured the public that the police will persist in addressing current security challenges and are collaborating closely with other security agencies to ensure national safety.
