The Supreme Court has scheduled Thursday, April 30, 2026, to deliver landmark judgments in the protracted leadership crises rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The decisions are expected to bring much-needed clarity to both parties as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadlines approach. According to the cause list published on the apex court’s website, the ADC suit, marked SC/CV/180/2026, is scheduled for delivery at 2:00 pm, while the specific timing for the PDP judgment remains unindicated. The ADC case follows a period of significant uncertainty after INEC de-recognized the David Mark-led leadership, citing a previous Court of Appeal judgment. The electoral commission has also refused to recognize Nafiu Bala Gombe, who sought a court order to be installed as national chairman. Until the Supreme Court renders its decision, INEC has maintained that it will not monitor any conventions or congresses organized by either faction. Simultaneously, the apex court will rule on the legitimacy of the PDP’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025. A faction led by Taminu Turaki is appealing previous rulings from the Abuja Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, both of which had nullified the Ibadan convention. The appellants are urging the Supreme Court to set aside those lower court decisions and validate the convention’s outcome. Legal and political analysts have warned that further delays could be catastrophic for the parties, with some stakeholders noting that the ADC could face significant trouble if the judgment is pushed beyond 48 hours.
