The Nigerian film industry is mourning with veteran actor Chief Ganiu Nofiu, popularly known as Alapini Osha, as he shared a soul-stirring account of the double tragedy that struck his household during his darkest hour.

The actor, famous for his intense portrayals of traditional herbalists, revealed that his life took a devastating turn when he was hit by a mysterious illness that left him bedridden and unable to sleep for an entire year.

The weight of Alapini’s grief stems from a period of absolute helplessness. While he was three months into his battle with the unknown ailment—a condition so severe he could not even lie down on a bed—he received the news of the death of his four-year-old son.

“It was during that illness I lost my 4-year-old child,” the actor recounted with visible pain. “I was stuck; there was no room to lie on a bed or on the floor. It was after that year God lifted me.”

For Alapini, the nightmare did not end with his recovery. The veteran thespian disclosed that the “double tragedy” extended to the loss of his adult son as well. Despite exhausting his resources to provide the best medical care, his 37-year-old son also passed away.

The actor described these losses as the hardest chapters of his life, stating that he has “known pain and grief in ways words can’t fully describe.”

Addressing the whispers within the industry, Alapini was quick to dismiss claims that his health struggles were a “spiritual payback” for the fetish roles he plays in Yoruba movies. He maintained that illness and death are universal experiences that do not discriminate based on profession.

While the veteran actor continues to heal from the emotional scars of losing two children, his story has sparked a wave of sympathy from fans and colleagues across the country, highlighting the silent battles many icons face behind the screen.
