In a move that has stunned the Nigerian entertainment landscape, Nollywood actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has opened a lid on the harrowing aftermath of his support for Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha. Fabiyi, who became the face of a controversial defense for the veteran actor during his 2021 sexual assault trial, has alleged that his “sacrificial loyalty” was rewarded with threats and intimidation shortly after Baba Ijesha’s release from prison in 2025.
The activist, visibly pained by the development, narrated a chilling encounter involving an emissary allegedly sent by Baba Ijesha. According to Fabiyi, the veteran actor did not reach out with gratitude for the years of legal and emotional backing but instead dispatched a man to warn him against ever speaking about the case again. The move, Fabiyi claims, was a calculated attempt to silence him after he had exhausted his resources and reputation to ensure Baba Ijesha did not serve a life sentence.

”The same God that witnessed Baba Ijesha’s ungratefulness is now dealing with him,” Fabiyi stated in a recent emotional disclosure. He recounted how he stood firmly by the actor when the industry and the public had largely turned their backs, describing the current intimidation as a “painful betrayal” of a bond he believed was built on mutual respect and justice.
The fallout took a more public turn when Fabiyi revealed that he was intentionally sidelined from the credits of a song released by Baba Ijesha to mark his return to the spotlight. Fabiyi viewed the omission as a deliberate attempt to mock his efforts and distance the veteran actor from the person who fought most fiercely for his freedom. He lamented that his history of helping colleagues has frequently been met with “evil,” citing Baba Ijesha as the most prominent example of such ingratitude.
As news of the alleged threats spreads, it has reignited the fierce debate surrounding Fabiyi’s initial decision to support the embattled actor. While some observers have expressed sympathy for his current plight, others pointed out that the alliance was always fraught with professional risk.
Despite the threats and the alleged “thugs” sent to warn him, Fabiyi maintained that his actions were driven by a belief in fairness, though he admitted the experience has left him deeply disillusioned with his colleague’s character. Baba Ijesha has yet to respond to these specific allegations of intimidation or the reported breakdown of their relationship.
