The convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has launched a fresh verbal attack on the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi. Sowore, in a trending video, dismissed the rumored political realignment between Peter Obi and the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing it as a “failed project.” The activist further sparked controversy by labeling Obi’s political movement a “Ponzi scheme,” alleging that it was designed to deceive Nigerians rather than provide a genuine alternative to the ruling class. He said, “Peter Obi is one of the biggest political Ponzi schemes. His alignment with Kwankwaso will not succeed. They are all the same—the same DNA of oppression and corruption. They have fooled you and you can’t even admit it.” Sowore also took a swipe at the crowd that recently greeted the former Anambra State Governor during a visit to Kano, alleging that it was a “borrowed crowd” intended to create a false sense of national appeal. According to him, the supporters seen with Obi were ordinary citizens celebrating the Sallah festivities at Kwankwaso’s residence, rather than an organic political gathering. “They are upset about the organic crowd that received me in Aba, so their principal had to go and borrow people doing Sallah in Kano to look relevant,” Sowore added. The activist’s comments come amid reports of Peter Obi potentially exploring a new political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, following internal leadership tussles within the Labour Party. As of the time of filing this report, neither Peter Obi’s media team nor the leadership of the NNPP has responded to Sowore’s latest outburst.
