ABUJA – In a move that underscores the high-stakes political atmosphere currently gripping the nation’s capital, the Federal Government has officially directed all civil servants operating within the Federal Secretariat complex to work from home starting Friday, March 27, 2026. The directive comes as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to take over the city for its much-anticipated National Convention, scheduled to hold at the iconic Eagle Square The decision to clear the Secretariat was communicated via a circular signed by Abdul Garba, the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. According to the memo, the seat of government administration will effectively be under a “lock and key” status regarding physical attendance to ensure a seamless flow for the political exercise. All access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex (Phases I, II, and III) will be cordoned off from Friday morning through Saturday, March 28. “All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat… are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads… This is due to the use of Eagle Square for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” the circular read in part. The closure of the nation’s primary administrative hub highlights the sheer scale of the APC’s upcoming convention. With thousands of delegates, party stalwarts, and governors expected to descend on Abuja, the government cited the proximity of the Federal Secretariat to Eagle Square as the primary reason for the temporary “work from home” order. Gistlife reports that while the move is intended to manage traffic and security logistics, it has sparked conversations among stakeholders regarding the intersection of party activities and state functions. The APC convention is expected to be a defining moment for the ruling party as it navigates internal dynamics and prepares its structure for the upcoming electoral cycle.
