Nigerian music superstar, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the P-Square group, has vowed to take legal action against a social media user following “offensive and false” allegations made against his late mother.

The controversy erupted after a viral post on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) claimed that the singer’s late mother was opposed to his marriage to his wife, Lola Omotayo-Okoye, on ethnic grounds.

Reacting to the post, which suggested that tribal sentiments played a role in his family dynamics years ago, Okoye described the claims as a fabrication designed to maliciousy tarnish his mother’s memory.

Taking to his official handle, the singer issued a stern ultimatum to the originator of the post, demanding an immediate retraction and a public apology.

“This post about my late mother is unacceptable and deeply hurtful. Take it down and apologise immediately, or I will take legal action,” Okoye warned.

Peter Okoye and Lola Omotayo-Okoye officially tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in 2013, after several years of dating. The union, which has produced two children, has often been a subject of public discourse due to the couple’s different ethnic backgrounds—Peter being Igbo and Lola being of Yoruba and Western descent.

Despite past rumors regarding family friction during the P-Square group’s various internal rifts, Peter has consistently maintained that his wife has been his “pillar of support.”

Legal experts suggest that the singer may have grounds for a defamation suit, particularly as the claims involve a deceased person and have the potential to incite ethnic discord.

As of the time of this report, the controversial post remains a subject of intense debate on social media, though it remains unclear if the user has complied with the singer’s demand for an apology.
