The quest to settle the paternity of late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam, has hit a major legal and technical snag as two top-tier international laboratories have officially declined to conduct the court-ordered DNA tests.

The development, which surfaced on Thursday, March 19, 2026, marks a frustrating “dead end” for Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who has been locked in a bitter public feud with his daughter-in-law, Wunmi, over the child’s lineage since the singer’s tragic passing in 2023.

Just three weeks ago, a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, granted approval for specialized DNA testing to be carried out by three world-renowned facilities in the UK and USA. However, the plan has been derailed by the physical state of the evidence.

According to Oladayo Ogungbe, legal representative to Joseph Aloba, the two laboratories selected by the court and Wunmi—Advanced Histopathology Laboratory (London) and Alpha Bio Labs (Warrington)—have both refused the request.

Both UK facilities stated they do not handle post-mortem DNA testing involving embalmed bodies.

This technicality poses a massive challenge, as Mohbad’s remains were exhumed and preserved for investigation shortly after his death, potentially compromising the biological samples needed for these specific labs’ protocols.

As it stands, only the DNA Diagnostics Centre in Ohio, USA—the facility chosen by Mohbad’s father—remains a potential option, though it is unclear if they will also cite similar constraints regarding the embalmed samples.
