Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has broken his silence following the shock defection of Senator Binos Yaroe and eight other lawmakers to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a “victory for Nigeria.”

In a bold statement shared via his official Facebook page on Friday, the Waziri of Adamawa hailed the senators for their “balls of steel,” praising them for standing their ground despite intense political pressure to join the ruling party.

Atiku noted that the mass movement to the ADC is a powerful statement against the “coercion” currently facing Nigerian politicians.

“I commend Senator Binos Yaroe and the eight distinguished senators who boldly aligned with the ADC yesterday, not for personal gain, but in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy,” Atiku wrote.

He insisted that a country without a strong opposition is a democracy in name only, adding that the senators’ decision has strengthened the collective voice of Nigerians pushing for accountability and good governance.

The defection has officially turned the ADC into the leading minority party in the National Assembly, a move that analysts say has completely re-drawn the political map ahead of future battles.

Atiku concluded by stating that when leaders choose principle over political pressure, the people ultimately benefit. “Together, we will build a stronger, more just, and more prosperous Nigeria,” he stated.
