IBADAN – Kehinde Adegbodu, one-half of the renowned Yoruba gospel music duo, Adegbodu Twins, has finally opened up on the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of his twin brother, Taiwo Adegbodu.

The revelation comes exactly one week after the news of Taiwo’s passing on Sunday, March 1, 2026, left fans and the Nigerian gospel music community in deep mourning.

Addressing a group of sympathizers and visitors at their residence in Ibadan, an emotional Kehinde debunked rumors of a prolonged illness, stating categorically that his brother was in good health prior to the tragic incident.

Narrating their final moments together on the night of Saturday, February 28, Kehinde detailed a timeline that shifted from a routine evening to a midnight medical emergency.

“We went to our separate rooms after our every night routine prayers at 9:00 PM on Saturday,” Kehinde recounted in a viral video. “He came to knock at my door at 10:55 PM saying that he was having chest pains. I drove him to the hospital immediately, and he died a few minutes later. He was never sick.”

According to the account provided by the surviving twin, Taiwo suffered a massive heart attack shortly after complaining of the sudden discomfort. Despite the swift attempt to get him medical attention, the singer could not be revived.

The suddenness of the event has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, particularly within the Oyo State chapter of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN), where the duo has been a prominent fixture for over two decades.

The Adegbodu Twins are celebrated for their hit records and their unique harmonious style which blended traditional Yoruba percussion with spiritual lyrics. The loss of Taiwo is seen as a major blow to the gospel music landscape in Nigeria.

As of the time of this report, funeral arrangements have not been formally announced by the family. Colleagues, religious leaders, and high-profile personalities in Ibadan have continued to pay their respects to the bereaved family.
