History Will Judge Us” – Oyo Governor Joins Power Meeting as Court Rulings Shake the Umbrella’s Foundation

The political atmosphere in Nigeria is currently “heavy,” and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is not sugarcoating the reality. Following a bombshell Appeal Court judgment that has sent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into a tailspin, Makinde has described the current era as a “challenging period” for the country’s democracy.

Speaking at an emergency Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge on Tuesday, the Governor admitted that even political veterans are shocked by the current state of affairs.

In a speech that was both somber and defiant, Makinde noted that the political landscape has never looked quite like this. Despite the legal drama and the leadership tussle tearing at the party’s seams, he sent a clear message to those watching: He and his allies are on the side of the people.

“I can say, personally… that when the story of this period is told, they will find us on the side of the people. This period will also go away. It will pass away,” Makinde declared.

Drawing from his faith to encourage the party faithful, the Governor closed his remarks with a powerful promise of better days ahead.

“I don’t know where it is in the Quran, but in the Bible, I know where it is… weeping may endure for the night, but in the morning, joy cometh.”

The meeting, chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, was a “who’s who” of PDP heavyweights. Seen at the lodge were:

The emergency gathering was called to navigate the fallout of Monday’s court ruling, which has left the party’s leadership structure in a state of uncertainty. Makinde urged everyone present to be conscious of how history will record their actions during this “night time” for the party.
