Firebrand activist and co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has officially declared the countdown to the 2027 general elections a “war for survival,” warning that the era of “business as usual” in Nigerian politics is dead. Appearing on Channels Television this Thursday, Yesufu didn’t mince words, describing the upcoming polls as a high-stakes battle for the soul of the nation. She suggested that the level of passion and desperation among the citizenry has reached a breaking point. โAs we go into 2027, let me tell you, itโs a war we are going into. We are fighting for our lives. Every one of us, there is a bed in the psychiatric hospital for every one of us who wants to show that madness.โ Yesufu took a direct swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of lacking credibility and operating with a culture of impunity. With the general elections still a year away, Yesufuโs comments signal an early and aggressive start to the political season. Her rhetoric suggests that the “Third Force” and civil society groups are preparing for a confrontation far more intense than the 2023 cycle.
