In a significant restructuring of his inner cabinet, President Bola Tinubu has officially promoted his long-time ally, Ibrahim Masari, from Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the high-ranking position of Special Adviser on Political Affairs.

The announcement, made Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, marks a clear promotion within the presidential hierarchy. In the Villaโ€™s pecking order, a Special Adviser holds more strategic weight and closer proximity to the President than an SSA.

Masari will not be working alone. He is set to join forces with Alhaji Yau Darazo, who has held the same Special Adviser title since July 2023. Together, the duo is expected to anchor the President’s political strategy as the 2027 election cycle begins to heat up.

Unlike ministerial positions, this appointment does not require Senate confirmation. By elevating a trusted “loyalist” to a senior advisory role, President Tinubu appears to be tightening his political grip and streamlining his communication channels with regional power brokers.
