Oyo 2027: Boost for APC as popular broadcaster ‘MC Swagger’ dumps PDP, joins AKK camp

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has received a significant boost with the defection of renowned media personality and youth mobiliser, Dr. Opeyemi Ayanride, popularly known as ‘MC Swagger’, from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dr. Ayanride, who is also the ‘ANBROAD Governor’, was officially received into the APC fold by stakeholders in Ibarapa land, led by a leading governorship aspirant, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK).

The formal reception, which was held amidst fanfare with party leaders, youth groups, and grassroots mobilisers in attendance, has been described by political watchers as a strategic move to consolidate the APC’s grip on the Ibarapa zone.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK) commended MC Swagger for his “courageous decision” to align with the progressives. He described the broadcaster as a vibrant force whose influence among youths, creatives, and professionals would add significant value to the party’s rescue mission in the state.

AKK noted that the APC remains a broad-based platform open to individuals with capacity, credibility, and a genuine commitment to grassroots development.

“This defection reflects our party’s renewed resolve to expand its reach, energise the youth base, and consolidate its presence across Ibarapa Land and the entire Oyo State. MC Swagger is an asset, and his entry is a testament that the APC is the party of the future,” AKK stated.

Stakeholders present at the gathering expressed confidence that Dr. Ayanride’s entry would enhance mobilisation efforts and bridge the gap between the party and the younger generation of voters.

In his remarks, Dr. Opeyemi Ayanride (MC Swagger) thanked the APC leaders and AKK for the warm reception. He affirmed his loyalty to the party’s progressive ideals, pledging to deploy his media platform, network, and experience to advance the APC’s vision for inclusive governance.

“I am here to work. I believe in the vision of the APC to restore Oyo State to the path of sustainable development, and I am ready to give my all,” he said.
