The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Anambra State, David Chukwudifu, has warned that the party may struggle to win even a single ward in the state for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chukwudifu attributed the situation to an alleged exclusion of the party’s existing state, local government and ward executives from political activities following Obi’s entry into the NDC.

In an interview with The Punch, the state chairman accused Obi and his associates of sidelining the party’s established leadership while allowing another group to conduct political activities without consulting them.

According to him, the situation has weakened the party’s structure in Anambra and created uncertainty among members and supporters seeking direction on its activities.

Chukwudifu said he had made several attempts to reach Obi after the former Anambra State governor joined the party on May 3, 2026, but claimed that his calls and messages were not answered.

He alleged that another group subsequently began selling nomination forms, conducting screenings and organising a primary election without the participation of the recognised state executives.

The NDC chairman also claimed that 326 ward chairmen, 21 local government chairmen and 29 members of the state working committee had been removed from their positions, warning that the development could further damage the party’s chances in the state.

He said the party’s activities had largely shifted online, with meetings held virtually, while supporters continued to contact him for information about participation and mobilisation.

Chukwudifu further disclosed that he had written to the party’s national leadership and relevant appeal committees in May 2026, seeking intervention in the dispute, but claimed that he had yet to receive a response.

He maintained that the party needed an inclusive structure to compete effectively in Anambra, where the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has maintained a strong political presence for nearly 24 years, according to him.

The chairman urged the party’s leadership to resolve the internal crisis, stressing that every member and vote would be important to the NDC’s electoral prospects in 2027.

He warned that unless the alleged exclusion of existing party executives was addressed, the NDC could find it difficult to secure meaningful electoral support in Anambra State.
