ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has distributed cheques worth ₦37.9 million to families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers who served in the state. The funds, totalling ₦37,913,081.77, were presented on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme. The presentation was held at the Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta. The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, was represented at the event by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Oliver Ezirim, alongside members of the Command Management Team. The event commenced with a minute of silence in honour of the deceased officers. Speaking during the presentation, Ezirim said the financial assistance was part of the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families. He acknowledged that no financial support could compensate for the loss of the officers, but said the intervention demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s recognition of their sacrifices and its responsibility to the families they left behind. A representative of the beneficiaries, Mrs John Shito, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Ogun State Command for the support. She assured that the funds would be judiciously used to cater for the welfare and sustenance of the beneficiaries and their families. The Ogun State Police Command also reaffirmed that families of officers who died in service remain part of the Police family, while honouring the memory and sacrifices of the deceased personnel.
