BERJA, SPAIN – President of Atlético Berja, Chief Dotun Jubril Sanusi, has pledged to transform the Spanish football club into one of the most respected teams in Spain and Europe, saying the ambition would be achieved through unity, discipline, hard work and strong community support. Sanusi made the pledge on Saturday while delivering the keynote address at the club’s Musical Sports Festival, held as part of the annual Berja Fair in Almería, Spain. Speaking before a gathering of residents, football stakeholders and international guests, Sanusi said his administration was determined to build a club that would compete at the highest level while remaining rooted in community values. “We believe in Atlético Berja. We believe in Berja Club. We believe that with hard work, unity, discipline and the support of this great community, this club can rise to incredible heights,” he said. He added, “We dream of seeing Atlético Berja become a name respected across Spain, across Europe and throughout the world—standing proudly among the greatest clubs and inspiring generations to come.” Sanusi described the event as the beginning of a new era for the club, stressing that football should serve as a platform for community development, cultural exchange and international cooperation. According to him, the festival symbolised the growing friendship among Spain, Malta and Nigeria, noting that the shared passion for football could bridge cultural and national differences. “Tonight, we proudly stand together as one family—from Malta, Nigeria and Spain. Different flags, different cultures, but one passion, one purpose and one dream,” he said. The Atlético Berja president also challenged young people to remain focused on their ambitions, urging them to believe that their hometown could produce future football stars, leaders and role models. Earlier, the Mayor of Berja welcomed guests to the festival and officially introduced Sanusi as the new President of Atlético Berja, reaffirming the municipality’s support for the club’s new leadership. The introduction drew sustained applause from the audience. The Musical Sports Festival featured live performances by acclaimed Spanish bands Los Inhumanos and No Me Pises Que Llevo Chanclas, whose renditions of 1990s classics entertained hundreds of spectators. The event was attended by the Mayor of Berja, members of the Berja Town Council, representatives of Swieqi United FC of Malta, officials of Atlético Berja and Berja Club de Fútbol, alongside other invited guests. The festival was one of the highlights of this year’s Berja Fair, showcasing the role of football and music in promoting unity, cultural exchange and stronger international partnerships. Under Sanusi’s leadership, Atlético Berja is seeking to establish itself as not only a competitive football club but also a symbol of community engagement and global collaboration.
