Nollywood box-office queen, Toyin Abraham, has announced a major shift in her personal and professional life, declaring that she is cutting out all forms of distractions to focus strictly on what matters most to her. The actress made this known while sharing a series of new photographs to usher in the week. According to her, her ultimate roadmap going forward will centre entirely around God, her own well-being, her family, her loyal fan base popularly known as the ‘Toyintitans’, and her career goals. The actress’s new stance follows a turbulent few days in the public eye, during which she faced intense social media backlash over her traditional greeting habits. Abraham was recently spotted in a viral video kneeling completely to greet businesswoman Shade Okoya and her husband during the 70th birthday celebration of Debola Lagos’ father. A similar incident occurred with Olori Sekinat Elegushi, where the actress also went to her knees to converse with the seated monarch. While some critics on social media labeled the gesture as unnecessary and an act of “eye service,” the actress quickly fired back, expressing deep disappointment over how some Nigerians are beginning to discard their cultural heritage. Describing herself as a proud, true-born ‘Omoluabi’, she maintained that kneeling to greet elders is a value deeply rooted in her upbringing, promising to intentionally pass the cultural pride down to the younger generation regardless of modern criticisms. The resolution also follows a public falling out between Abraham and her former protege, Abike Shugga, over the movie Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper. Shugga had released an explosive eight-minute video detailing their working relationship and alleging that she was entirely left out of the project’s final cut despite heavy promotion. Responding to the allegations, the box-office queen debunked the heavy financial figures being quoted in the media, insisting that the ongoing speculations are wildly inaccurate. She noted that she remains a rare breed who doesn’t expect the public to always understand her actions, choosing instead to channel her energy away from negativity and toward her newly outlined life goals.
