The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has thrown its camp into severe anxiety following the disqualification of no fewer than 47 senatorial aspirants from participating in its upcoming primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls. The bombshell, which has effectively stalled the immediate legislative ambitions of several political heavyweights and party stalwarts, was made public on Monday in an official statement released by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. According to Morka, the decision to bar the affected aspirants followed a rigorous evaluation conducted by the party’s designated screening committees. The party image maker maintained that the exercise was carried out in strict compliance with established guidelines, internal rules, and constitutional procedures of the ruling party. While the APC leadership chose to keep the specific reasons for axing the 47 politicians close to its chest, the massive purge has sent shockwaves through the party’s rank and file across various states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. Prominent among the high-profile casualties who failed to scale the party’s clearance hurdle is the former lawmaker representing Bayelsa East, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, alongside a notable Rivers State political figure and former presidential aspirant, Tein Jack-Rich. The sweeping disqualification hit several state chapters severely, with Zamfara State recording the highest casualty rate of seven disqualified aspirants across its central, northern, and western districts. Rivers State also witnessed a major shakeup in its West senatorial district, where key figures such as Oyukaye Flag Amachree and three others were locked out of the race. Despite mounting curiosity, protests, and tension within the political space, the ruling party has insisted that it will not disclose individual reasons for the mass disqualifications at this time, leaving many of the affected aspirants and their supporters in deep suspense as the shadow elections draw near.
