THE Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought one Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi before a Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri over an alleged N25.6 million fraud involving the supply of 400 bags of beans.

The defendant was arraigned before Justice Aisha Kumaliya on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money under false pretence.

According to the EFCC, the troubled transaction began in July 2025, when Korimi allegedly obtained 400 bags of beans, valued at N25,647,000, from one Maina Hassan Madube. The defendant reportedly claimed the produce was to be supplied to customers in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, with a promise to remit payment within one week—a representation the commission described as false.

One of the charges read: “That you, Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi, on or about July 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State… with intent to defraud, obtained 400 bags of beans valued at the sum of N25,647,000.00 from one Maina Hassan Madube, under the false pretence that you will supply same to your customers at Sango-Ota, Ogun State and make payment for it within one week… and thereby committed an offence.”

When the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the counts.

Counsel to the EFCC, S.O. Saka, subsequently prayed the court for a trial date and requested that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

In her ruling, Justice Kumaliya ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility. The case was thereafter adjourned till April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
