A heavy cloud of political uncertainty has descended upon the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following Governor Seyi Makinde’s sudden decision to suspend an all-important stakeholders’ meeting indefinitely.

The gathering, which was meticulously planned to serve as the definitive stage for the Governor to unveil his anointed successor and the political vehicle for the 2027 transition, was aborted in the eleventh hour. The move has effectively paralyzed the momentum of the Governor’s “Seyi 4 Seyi” structure and left his most loyal foot soldiers in a state of confusion.

Reliable sources within the Agodi Government House suggest the retreat was necessitated by the sudden emergence of a credible threat regarding an alleged impeachment plot. While the administration has maintained a strategic silence, the rumour mill has been working overtime, suggesting that certain power blocs—both within and outside the party—are leveraging the transition heat to destabilize the incumbent’s administration.

The suspension of the meeting has dealt a significant blow to the morale of the Governor’s camp. Many party stalwarts, who had traveled from the 33 local government areas to Ibadan in anticipation of a clear directive, were reportedly discouraged by the sudden change in plans. The atmosphere, which was initially charged with the excitement of a new political era, has since soured into one of suspicion and defensive posturing.

“The Governor is a tactical player, and he knows that you cannot build a house while the foundation is being rattled,” a top party source noted. “The impeachment claims, whether real or a calculated distraction, have forced a total shift in focus. The priority has moved from 2027 to 2026 survival.”

Within the party hierarchy, the silence from the Governor’s inner circle is being interpreted as a sign of deep-seated internal friction. There are growing concerns that the delay in naming a successor will only widen existing cracks, allowing rival factions to gain ground as the administration focuses on dousing the legislative fire.

For now, the Oyo PDP finds itself in a precarious “wait-and-see” position. With the stakeholders’ meeting on ice and the “anointed one” still under wraps, the ruling party faces a race against time to restore internal confidence and project a united front in the face of rising opposition.
