The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Oyo North Senatorial District have affirmed a former member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, as the party’s candidate for the district.

The decision was the highlight of a strategic meeting held on Thursday involving the governor and key political players from the zone.

Reliable sources at the meeting told our correspondent that the stakeholders unanimously adopted Peller, noting that the move was necessary to strengthen the party’s grip on the district ahead of the upcoming elections.

It was gathered that the session, which lasted several hours, focused on the need for internal cohesion and the presentation of a candidate with the requisite grassroots appeal.

”The party leaders from the North have spoken with one voice. The confirmation of Shina Peller is a strategic step to ensure we have a formidable representation for the district. Governor Makinde is committed to ensuring that the best hands are put forward to drive the party’s agenda,” a source close to the Governor stated.

The development is expected to alter the political permutations in the state, as the PDP moves to consolidate its structure in a zone previously considered a battleground.

Stakeholders at the meeting were said to have emphasized the importance of collective commitment, urging all party members to work toward a common goal to ensure victory at the polls.

While the meeting is reportedly ongoing to finalize other strategic decisions, the endorsement of Peller has already sparked reactions across the senatorial district, with many viewing it as a major boost to the party’s electoral prospects.
