The Presidency has declared that Nigeria’s economy is on a path to outperform the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other advanced nations in economic growth by 2026. According to the latest World Economic Outlook released by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Nigeria is projected to record a 4.1 per cent growth rate in 2026, significantly higher than the 2.3 per cent projected for the United States and the 0.8 per cent forecasted for both the United Kingdom and Germany. The Presidency, through the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, described the projection as a clear indication that the administration’s economic reforms are “turning the corner.” Bwala noted that while the reforms have been challenging for citizens in the short term, they are steadily yielding tangible fruits that place Nigeria among the stronger performers in the global landscape. The IMF report also indicates that Nigeria’s growth trajectory is expected to climb further to 4.3 per cent in 2027, maintaining a lead over South Africa, which is projected to grow at a modest 1.0 per cent. The Presidency remains confident that continued focus on fiscal management and the revitalization of the energy sector will sustain this momentum, positioning Nigeria as a primary engine of growth within Sub-Saharan Africa.
