The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked reports making the rounds that he denied the African Democratic Congress (ADC) access to Eagle Square in Abuja.

Wike, who spoke on Monday during an inspection tour of various projects in the city, described the allegations as “unfounded” and a cheap attempt by the party to whip up public sentiments against the government.

The Minister maintained that his office has not received any formal application from the political party for the use of the facility, wondering how a request that was never made could be turned down.

According to him, the FCT administration encourages the use of such venues because they serve as a source of internally generated revenue for the government.

“We do not deny access; these events actually generate revenue for the government. Who denied them? I am not aware of any such development, and I don’t even know which party you are referring to,” Wike stated.

He further took a swipe at the ADC, suggesting that the alarm was a trademark move to grab headlines.

“If it is the African Democratic Congress (ADC), such claims are their usual attempt to gain public sympathy,” he added.

Wike stressed that Eagle Square remains open to all groups, including political parties, provided they follow the laid down due process and pay the required fees for the venue.
