In a dramatic confrontation that signals a total breakdown in his long-standing relationship with the presidency, former Minister of Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has publicly shredded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, dismissing it as a calculated scam. Addressing a fired-up crowd at the National Convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday, the former Osun State Governor demanded the President’s immediate resignation, citing a “colossal mismanagement” of the country. Aregbesola, now the National Secretary of the ADC, argued that the administration has failed to secure the lives of Nigerians or provide a stable economy, instead presiding over a period of unprecedented hardship. ”The answer is simple. It is a scam. The answer is what? A scam!” Aregbesola charged, lead-singing a chorus of dissent against his former political party. He pointed to the “terribly devastating” economic indicators, noting that since Tinubu took office in 2023, the Naira has devalued by 100 per cent and fuel prices have jumped from approximately N200 to a staggering N1,400 per litre. The former minister didn’t stop at the economy; he lambasted the government’s performance in the power sector, stating that many Nigerians now face total darkness or a mere two hours of electricity daily. He further alleged that the ruling APC is “normalizing criminality” through flawed electoral laws and failing to address the crisis of 20 million out-of-school children. Aregbesola concluded with a rallying cry for a “rescue mission,” warning that Nigeria is drifting into hopelessness and calling on all “conscientious citizens” to join the ADC in stopping the current regime from retaining power at all costs.
