Yoruba movie star Damilola Oni has opened a can of worms regarding the toxic side of Nollywood, revealing how a senior colleague’s vendetta almost derailed her professional journey. Speaking in a revealing interview on Oyinmomo TV, the busty actress recounted a heartbreaking experience where she was tipped for a major lead role, only to be sabotaged at the last minute. Damilola narrated how she arrived on set and was ignored for over eight hours, only for the producer to later inform her that the lead male actor refused to work with her. ”The producer said the person we were supposed to act with said they had to pick between them and me,” she explained. “Because he couldn’t pick me over the senior colleague, my lead role was stripped away and I was offered a minor role with just four scenes.” Despite the pain and humiliation, Damilola refused to walk away, noting that she stayed to film the minor role just to prove she couldn’t be broken. “Leaving would mean I allowed the person to crush me. The sky is big enough for everyone to fly,” she added. The interview also took a sharp turn into the actress’s personal life and the dark side of fame. Damilola revealed that she is constantly bombarded with inappropriate content from male fans. According to her, her DMs are filled with nudes and erotic messages, with some fans even confessing to performing sexual acts while watching her on screen. ”Some people tell me in the comment section that they watched me on Africa Magic and got horny… they are masturbating just by watching me on TV,” she shared. Despite the advances, the actress maintained that she is still single, stressing that most of the men coming her way do not fit her “spec.” She also lamented the current state of the industry, where “hype” and social media presence are often prioritized over genuine acting talent. Damilola’s revelation joins a growing list of actresses, including Nkechi Blessing and Biodun Okeowo, who have recently spoken out against the gatekeeping and “name-spoiling” allegedly prevalent among senior figures in the industry.
