The Nigerian digital space was set oriflamme this weekend as a “wedding” video featuring versatile Nollywood actor, Lateef Adedimeji, went viral, sparking a firestorm of speculation regarding a second marriage.

The footage, which dominated timelines on X and TikTok, showed the award-winning actor dressed in traditional wedding attire, leading many to believe he had officially taken a second spouse. The rumors were further fueled by a netizen, @UOladiti, who suggested the move was a result of the couple’s five-year wait for a child since their glamorous 2021 nuptials.

However, a deep dive into the origin of the clip reveals a classic case of digital mischief. It can be authoritatively confirmed that the video is neither new nor a secret ceremony. It is, in fact, recycled footage from Lateef’s original traditional wedding to his wife, Adebimpe “Mo Bimpe” Oyebade, held in December 2021.

Furious fans and industry insiders have slammed the “Elon Musk money seekers” for peddling fake news to drive engagement. One social media user, @vanemrys15, lamented, “This is an old video. Why can’t people just leave this couple alone and stop posting fake stories for clout?”

While the couple remains a united front, the incident has once again turned the spotlight on the intrusive nature of social media commentary regarding their personal life. Despite the “fake news” wedding, the couple continues to receive prayers from supporters, including a recent viral prophecy from cleric Mary Olubori, who predicted the pitter-patter of tiny feet in their home very soon.

For now, the verdict is clear: Lateef remains a one-woman man, and the “second wife” is nothing more than a ghost of weddings past.
