A former governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Hon. Bolanle Amina Sarumi Aliyu, popularly known as BASA, has officially announced her return to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Sarumi Aliyu, a former Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora to Governor Seyi Makinde, noted that her decision followed “extensive consultations” with her political associates and supporters across the 33 local government areas of the state and those in the diaspora.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday, the former National Interest Party and African Democratic Congress chieftain described her return as a “strategic homecoming” aimed at repositioning the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She stated, “After careful reflection on the current political landscape, I have taken a decisive step in the interest of service, unity, and the future of our dear state. I hereby formally announce my decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

“The PDP represents a platform where experience, structure, and national spread converge to deliver meaningful governance. It is a platform to which I have devoted significant years of service in the past, and where I believe my contributions can once again make a difference.”

The politician specifically commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his “unwavering commitment” to the stability of the party at the national level. She also lauded the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

In Oyo State, Sarumi Aliyu identified a former Deputy Governor, Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, as her political leader, thanking him for providing the leadership that facilitated her return.

“I thank my leader, His Excellency Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, for holding forth and ensuring that I, alongside millions of others who once left, can now confidently return home to a party that is united and formidable,” she added.

BASA maintained that her focus would remain on grassroots empowerment, youth development, and women inclusion as the party prepares for the next election cycle.

The return of the former ADC chieftain is seen by political observers as a move to strengthen the Gbolarumi-led faction of the PDP in the state, potentially altering the internal dynamics of the party ahead of 2027.
