The political space is currently buzzing after former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, decided to set the record straight regarding his legendary “war” with the powers-that-be during the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

For years, many Nigerians believed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the “mastermind” behind the legal heat Saraki faced. But in a fresh interview on Channels Television, Saraki says we’ve all been blaming the wrong person!

While speaking on Politics Today, Saraki was asked point-blank: Did Tinubu betray you? Was he the one who pushed you into the dock at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)?

Saraki’s response was a total curveball. He defended the current President, stating that people overestimated Tinubu’s influence during the Buhari years.

“That’s not fair on President Tinubu. During former President Buhari’s administration, Tinubu didn’t have the say that they claimed he had,” Saraki revealed.

Saraki didn’t stop there. He clarified that the heavy-duty trials he faced—from the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) case to the controversial Offa robbery investigations—were not cooked in Tinubu’s kitchen.

According to him, those actions were the price he paid for standing his ground as Senate President. He insisted he was “persecuted” simply because he prioritized the interest of the country over the “cabal” running the show at the time.

“I was doing what I felt was in the interest of the country… and for doing those things, I was then persecuted,” he stated firmly.

The “Online Jury” is already tearing this apart. Many are shocked to see Saraki defending the man many thought was his chief political rival.

Is this the beginning of a political “reunion,” or is Saraki just making sure the history books are accurate? One thing is for sure—the “betrayal” story has been officially debunked!
