A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has ordered the remand of a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, over her alleged involvement in a botched abortion that led to the death of a 23-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Adesanya is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to procure abortion, and murder. During the proceedings on Thursday, the police prosecutor, Solomon Babalola, moved an ex parte motion seeking the defendant’s remand pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Babalola requested that the court keep the defendant in custody for an initial period of 60 days. The prosecutor informed the court that the alleged offences were committed between January and March 2026 in the Ikereku area of Laderin, Abeokuta. According to the prosecution, the defendant conspired with others, who are currently at large, to perform an abortion on one Victoria Ariyo, a serving corps member in the state capital. Ariyo reportedly died from complications arising from the procedure and was buried last week. The offences are said to contravene Sections 516, 230, 324, and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006. The court was also informed that one Abass Olalekan, an NYSC official alleged to have impregnated the deceased, had previously been arraigned and was subsequently granted bail. In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the application for remand. She ordered that Adesanya be kept at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the DPP’s advice. The case was adjourned until May 26, 2026, for mention. Post navigation Saraki Drops Bombshell on Offa Robbery Allegations and Political Wars Hon.
