LAGOS — Pastor Foluke Adeboye, the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has opened up about the radical sacrifice she made upon embracing her faith as a born-again Christian. In a candid revelation that has sparked conversations across social media, the woman widely known as “Mummy GO” disclosed that she disposed of her entire collection of expensive gold jewelry by throwing it into a lagoon. According to her, the decision was fueled by the early doctrines of the RCCG, which at the time viewed the wearing of earrings and flamboyant jewelry as a “taboo” for believers Recounting her journey, Pastor Foluke admitted that prior to her conversion, she was a lover of fashion who had even acquired high-end gold items for her young child. However, the moment she “sold her life to Christ,” her perspective on material wealth shifted drastically. “The moment we were born again, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon,” she stated. The move was not without pushback from those close to her. She recalled how a family friend questioned the “waste” of such valuable assets, suggesting that instead of throwing them away, she should have given the gold to her mother to sell. But the Clergywoman remained resolute, standing by a principle of spiritual integrity. “Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother,” she retorted, refusing to pass on what she then considered a spiritual hindrance. Reflecting on the decades that have passed since the incident, Pastor Foluke maintained that she feels no sense of loss regarding the sunken treasure. She emphasized that her commitment to her faith outweighed any material possession.
