The Chairman and Executive Producer of Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), Wale Adenuga (MFR), has cleared the air over the controversy surrounding veteran actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known as Papa Ajasco, following a viral video and media interview where the actor allegedly portrayed a state of financial hardship.

In a detailed statement made available to Daily Trust on Tuesday, Adenuga expressed surprise at the narrative, describing it as a wave of “misinformation and uninformed public intervention.”

Adenuga, who created the iconic Papa Ajasco character in 1976, noted that while he is happy for Ayoyinka’s recent social media success, the “broke” narrative does not add up given the actor’s professional history.

He revealed that Ayoyinka was a civil servant with the Lagos State Government for over 30 years and was a key member of the state’s cultural troupe.

“Now, the question is: why is Abiodun Ayoyinka claiming to be broke? Where are the investments from his over 30 years of meritorious service with the Lagos State Government? What happened to his gratuities?” Adenuga queried.

The WAP boss further debunked claims of neglect, stating that the production house had supported the actor significantly over the decades. He disclosed that Ayoyinka has owned at least five different cars, including a Mercedes-Benz, and confirmed that the actor possesses a house in Ogun State.

“On the car issue, we once gave him a car—and Pa James as well. He has also used not less than five cars… at different times,” the statement added.

Addressing the restriction on the actor using the name “Papa Ajasco” for personal social media skits, Adenuga explained that it was a matter of legal brand protection rather than malice.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that WAP remains a reputable organization that fulfills its financial obligations to all artistes and crew members according to industry standards.

Adenuga maintained that any suggestion of financial exploitation or abandonment is “entirely false and misleading,” urging the public to disregard the trending emotional commentary.
