The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that Nigerian state governors are currently witnessing an unprecedented era of financial abundance under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking during a recent session, Akpabio revealed that the monthly allocations shared by the 36 states have surged significantly, moving from previous levels to a staggering range of N1.9 trillion to N2.7 trillion.

Akpabio, who previously served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, noted that the current financial “engineering” of the Tinubu-led government has changed the game for sub-national leaders.

“This is a wonderful time to be a governor. Unlike before, state governors are now sharing between N1.9 trillion and N2.7 trillion under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akpabio stated.

The Senate President further claimed that the increase in revenue from the Federation Account has effectively ended the era of wage crises in many states. He asserted that with the current influx of funds, no state government should have an excuse to borrow money just to pay worker salaries.

The surge in revenue is largely attributed to the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, which has significantly boosted the funds available for distribution among the three tiers of government.

Akpabio’s comments come at a time when several states are finalizing the implementation of the new national minimum wage, with some governors already pledging figures above the N70,000 benchmark.

While the Senate President celebrated the windfall for governors, he urged them to ensure the funds are utilized to stabilize the economy and improve the lives of citizens at the grassroots.
