By Nifemi Peters The political landscape of oyo state has been set ablaze as popular broadcaster and entertainer, Opeyemi Ayanrinde, famously known as MC Swagger, officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). In an exclusive interview with Gistlife, the mobilization maestro declared that he has learned his lesson the hard way, stating emphatically: “I am not a fool anymore.” The former Special Assistant on Mobilization to the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly revealed a harrowing tale of political “use and dump,” alleging that his loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration was met with total silence and broken promises. MC Swagger, who famously collapsed his political structure and led over 1,000 supporters from the APM to the PDP to secure the Governor’s second term, expressed deep regret over a “verbal agreement” that turned out to be a mirage. He exp “I joined the PDP to support Governor Seyi Makinde. We had a personal agreement through Seye Famojuro, Seyi Makind Ally for a statutory cabinet appointment,” Ayanrinde told Gistlife. “But they compensated me with a non-statutory appointment instead. I kept calling the Governor; he refused to pick. He wasn’t even responding to my messages anymore. That was the angle where I made a very big mistake personally.” In his most explosive revelation, MC Swagger detailed how his 2023 House of Representatives ambition was allegedly crushed from within. He claimed his party logo was “intentionally removed” from ballot papers in his constituency to clear the way for APC heavyweights. “I have the evidence. My party logo was intentionally removed… sponsored by the APC candidates then,” he alleged. “I lacked the political experience then. I never planned or believed they would betray the trust I had in them. But my experience now is different from my experience then.” Explaining his final resignation from the office of the Honorable Speaker, MC Swagger slammed the leadership for treating him like a “nobody” despite his 23 years of experience in the media and mobilization industry. “Before my resignation, I was on calls and chats with the Honorable Speaker for three months. He never replied. No avenue, no audience. All in the name of ego and pride,” he said. “I am not ready to work with someone who doesn’t see that I have anything to offer.” Now a “new bride” in the APC, MC Swagger admitted he is “financially down” after spending millions in 2023, but warned that his political “exposure” has made him a dangerous player for the next cycle. “I am in politics to build myself and my career. I don’t care about parties anymore; I am after credible candidates who respect me. If you cannot help my future, let me be myself,” he concluded. “The game they exposed me to is the game I am using for them now. I am not a fool anymore.” With his deep roots in eruwa and a newfound “activist” spirit, MC Swagger’s move to the APC signals a major shift in grassroots power as the countdown to 2027 begins.
