The political temperature in Nigeria just hit boiling point. Following a devastating terrorist raid in Borno State, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a blistering verbal assault on the President Bola Tinubu administration, accusing the government of “losing its grip” on national security while playing dangerous political games.

The spark for this latest row? A “deeply troubling” attack in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA, where suspected terrorists reportedly stormed a military base and an IDP camp, vanishing into the night with over 100 abducted residents.

In a stinging statement released on X, Atiku didn’t just condemn the terroristsโ€”he turned his sights directly on the Aso Rock power brokers. He suggested that Nigeria has reached a tipping point where the government has become “numb” to the constant cycle of violence and death.

The backdrop to this political firestorm is the horrific reality on the ground in Borno. The Ngoshe attack is being described as a major security breach, highlighting the fragile nature of safety in areas supposedly under military protection.

Atikuโ€™s critique frames the incident not as an isolated tragedy, but as a symptom of a government that has shifted its focus from public safety to political survival.

As of seven hours ago, the Federal Government has yet to issue a formal rebuttal to Atikuโ€™s heavy-hitting claims. With over 100 people still missing in the wake of the Gwoza attack, the pressure is mounting on the security chiefs to prove that they are, in fact, still in control.
