OSOGBO – In a move that has effectively redrawn the political map of Osun State, the local chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially abandoned its traditional umbrella logo to adopt Governor Ademola Adeleke as its candidate under the Accord Party for the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

The decision, announced on Monday at a massive stakeholders’ gathering in Osogbo, marks a historic shift where an incumbent administration has opted to switch platforms mid-stream to secure its re-election path.

The State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, made the declaration public, ordering every level of the PDP structure—from the grassroots polling units to the State Executive Committee—to collapse into the Accord Party.

Bisi cited the “unending” leadership crisis within the PDP’s national headquarters in Abuja as the primary reason for the divorce. He argued that the state could not afford to let external party friction “truncate the destiny” of Osun citizens.

“We will not allow an internal crisis at the national level to sabotage the development we are witnessing in Osun,” Bisi stated firmly.

The shift to the Accord Party is already drawing significant weight from across the aisle. Just yesterday, key leaders from the APC in Iragbiji—the hometown of Marine Minister Adegboyega Oyetola—led by Hon. Kareem Afolabi, defected to the Accord Party to support Adeleke’s “performance-based” campaign.

With the PDP’s grassroots machinery now merged with the Accord Party’s platform, the August 15 election is set to be a showdown between the traditional big parties and this new “hybrid” incumbency.
