IBADAN – Renowned cleric, Prophet Kasali, has raised an alarm over the recent conduct of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owode Elewuetu, warning that the monarch’s actions risk bringing further “disgrace” to the ancient and highly revered throne. In a video made available to gistlife, the Prophet called on the sons and daughters of Oyo, as well as prominent elders, to immediately call the monarch to order. He stressed that the Alaafin’s prestige, bestowed by Divine authority, must be protected from political and social friction. Prophet Kasali expressed deep concern over the ongoing rift between the Alaafin and the Oyo State Governor. He urged the monarch to resolve these “lingering issues” swiftly, noting that the current trajectory could lead to more public embarrassment for the traditional institution. Furthermore, the cleric slammed recent comments attributed to the Alaafin regarding some newly crowned Obas in the state, describing the remarks as “absurd” and beneath the dignity of the royal office. ”The Alaafin’s throne is highly revered beyond such statements,” Kasali stated. “It is a thing of disgrace to us as custodians of culture when words that should not come from Royal Majesty are uttered in the public space.” In a move that is likely to spark debate across Yorubaland, Prophet Kasali issued a direct appeal to Yoruba Kingmakers and State Houses of Assembly. He advocated for the introduction of mandatory psychiatric and mental capacity tests for any individual seeking to ascend a throne in Yorubaland. According to the Prophet, this is necessary to ensure that those entrusted with the heritage of the people possess the mental stability required for such a sacred office.
