AYEDE-EKITI — As the drums of the June 20, 2026 governorship election begin to beat louder, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sent a clear and uncompromising message to the political class: Peace is non-negotiable.

Speaking on Saturday during the colorful unveiling of a multi-million naira palace edifice and the birthday celebration of the Attah of Ayede Ekiti, Oba Abdulmumini Adebayo Orisagbemi, the Governor insisted that the upcoming polls must not be stained by the blood of any citizen.

Oyebanji, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, emphasized that political ambitions must never supersede the safety of the people.

“I am of the firm opinion that this election is not worth the blood of any Ekiti citizen. In ensuring this, all political actors must play by the rules and put Ekiti first,” the Governor stated.

He further charged traditional rulers to act as the “first line of defense” against political thugs who might seek to hide under the guise of electioneering to unleash terror on the state

With his first term winding down, Oyebanji didn’t mince words about his desire for continuity. He urged Ekiti voters to look at the “Lagos Model”—where decades of political stability have led to unprecedented growth—and apply the same logic to Ekiti.

The event took a spiritual and historic turn as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, joined the celebration. The Ooni showered encomiums on Oyebanji for his “unmatched humility” and deep respect for the traditional institution.

In a surprising revelation, the Attah of Ayede, Oba Orisagbemi, disclosed that he had actually “lost hope” of ever finishing the new palace.

“I started this project five years ago and thought my successor would be the one to finish it. But Governor Oyebanji took it over, changed the architectural design, and delivered it in record time,” the monarch revealed.
