Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is facing a fierce public backlash after a viral video showed him vowing to “deliver” the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the APC, even as terrorists release harrowing footage of abducted Kwarans. The Governor, speaking at a political gathering, assured President Tinubu of his commitment to securing victory in the FCT council elections. However, the timing has been described as “tone-deaf” by citizens. While the Governor focuses on Abuja’s ballot boxes, his home state is mourning victims of a brutal February 3rd attack on the Woro community in Kaiama LGA. The outcry intensified following the release of a disturbing video by bandits showing over 100 abducted victims. Social media users were quick to contrast the Governor’s political zeal with the insecurity ravaging rural Kwara. Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, stated that officials are “carefully analyzing” the terrorist video to identify victims, citing conflicting reports on the number of those kidnapped, Critics on X (formerly Twitter) slammed the Governor for prioritizing party politics over human lives. One user, Morris Monye, wrote: “His state is being ransacked by terrorists… but his concern is to deliver FCT.” The controversy highlights a growing disconnect between the ruling class and the governed. While the state government insists its priority is the “safe rescue” of citizens, the optics of the Governor campaigning for the FCT while Kaiama bleeds have left many Kwarans feeling abandoned.
