In a shocking revelation, Azeem Salako, convener of the Awori for Ogun Governor 2027 Movement, has disclosed that despite efforts to rally support for an Awori candidate, no Awori individual has approached the movement to contest for the Ogun State governor position in 2027.

In a strongly-worded response to an open letter by Mr Olamilekan Okeyinka, Salako lamented the lack of interest from Aworis approached to contest the position, stating that the movement has suffered a “serious and unbelievable decline” from potential candidates.

Salako also warned of increasing pressure from politicians seeking to exploit the Awori for Governor platform to negotiate other elective positions, deviating from the movement’s core governorship agenda. “The movement will not succumb to pressure from those bent on using the platform and its momentum to negotiate for other elective positions different from the governorship agenda,” Salako asserted.

The development has raised concerns about the viability of the Awori for Ogun Governor movement and sparked suspicions of a potential hijack by external forces. Salako, however, remains resolute, emphasizing the movement’s commitment to its foundational principles and promising a full explanation in due time.

With the governorship candidate emergence deadline looming, the Awori for Ogun Governor movement’s future hangs in the balance, leaving many wondering what’s next for the ambitious project.

As Ogun State approaches a critical juncture in its political landscape, only time will tell what the future holds for the Awori people and their quest for strategic positioning in the incoming government.
