. ISLAMIC OVERREACH: THREAT TO WORLD PEACE.NIGERIA’S SECULAR PRETENCE UNDER THREAT Christian Persecution in Nigeria: Is the United States Watching Closely ? Persecution of other Faiths in Nigeria: Is the World Watching ? Nigeria claims to be secular. The Constitution says so. But here’s the cold, hard truth: The federal government funds Islamic education through the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS). Nigeria is officially a member of at least 13 international Islamic organizations, including: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)Islamic Development Bank (IsmDB)International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC)Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD)Islamic Corporation for Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC)Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO)Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT)Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the OIC (COMCEC)Islamic University of Technology, DhakaInternational Islamic Fiqh AcademyStatistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic CountriesResearch Centre for Islamic History, Arts and Culture (IRCICA)Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD)Meanwhile, Christian organizations like CAN, CCN, PFN, OAIC, and their international counterparts receive no state funding, no formal recognition, no federal membership in international Christian bodies. This is not equal treatment. This is institutional discrimination masquerading as secular governance. Why This Matters: Constitutional Violations Section 10: The state shall not adopt any religion as State Religion Section 38: Every citizen has freedom of religion Section 42: All citizens are equal and protected against discrimination By privileging Islam through funding and international membership, the Nigerian state is violating its own Constitution, while Christian communities are left financially and institutionally disadvantaged. The Danger of Shariah Demands Recent demands for constitutional amendments guaranteeing Shariah rights are not about freedom of religion. They are: An attempt to institutionalize one religion A move toward an Islamic state in a constitutionally secular country An affront to Christians, agnostics, and rational citizens A potential spark for religious chaos and national instability Let us not forget: Iran, recently designated a terrorist state, shows the danger of forcing religious law through state power. Nigeria risks going down the same path if these demands are entertained. Reality Check: Secular in Name, Biased in Practice Islam enjoys funding, recognition, and government-backed international clout Christianity survives without equivalent state support Nigeria’s secularism is compromised and selective This is not equality. This is hypocrisy. And it is an insult to the Christian faith, non-believers, and rational human sensibilities. The Language of War: “We Won’t Accept”The repeated phrase “We won’t accept any constitutional amendment that falls short of Muslims’ right” mirrors jihadist rhetoric reminiscent of Ayatollah Khomeini. It is not merely a statement of faith or rights; it conveys intolerance, ultimatum, and confrontational posture, characteristic of leaders who enforce religious doctrine through coercion.Such language escalates tension, risks provoking other faiths, and is entirely inconsistent with the principles of dialogue, tolerance, and secular governance enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. In essence, it transforms a religious claim into a quasi‑political threat, signaling the potential for conflict if the state does not fully comply. ⚠️ We must reject any constitutional amendment or policy that enshrines one religion over others. Nigeria must remain truly secular, fair, and peaceful. ⚠️Chief Olawale Ojoge‑Daniel BSc Politics, Philosophy & EconomicsLLB (Hons), BL: Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NigeriaPublic Affairs Analyst, Social Crusader, and Advocate of Good GovernanceC.E.O., Ojoge‑Daniel Foundation for Human Rights and Conflict Mediation (JAFETO‑Centre) Post navigation Ogun Begins 50th Anniversary Celebration with Weekly Road Commissioning NEW ERA OF EXCELLENCE: Ex-NNPC Top Shot, Chief Adeoye, Takes Over Mantle of Leadership at ELXG Club
