IBADAN — Residents and businesses across major parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have been thrown into darkness following a critical fault on one of the major power transformers belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC).

In a public notice issued on Monday, the utility company confirmed that the technical glitch has triggered supply interruptions across several strategic feeders, leaving key industrial hubs, media houses, and residential estates without power.

The outage is widespread, affecting both high-profile commercial customers and densely populated residential areas.

According to IBEDC, the disruption has hit major companies including Eagle Flour, Frigoglass, and Lina Oil. Popular media houses like Fresh FM and Splash FM are also running on generators, alongside the Genesis Event Centre.

IBEDC listed the following communities and feeders as currently experiencing the blackout:

  • Residential & Commercial Hubs: Challenge, Felele Estate, Odò Ona, Odò Ona Kékéré, Boluwaji, and Soka.
  • Outer Ibadan/Lagelu Axis: Ologede, Alomaja, Arapaja, Bare, Oloola, Alata, and Ìdì Ayùnrẹ́.
  • Others: Ido Mango, Sanyo, Podo, Asipa, Oleyo, Ayegun, Idi Oya, Tipper Garage, Eyini, and Adelabu Market.

The distribution company has apologized for the inconvenience, assuring customers that its technical team is already on ground to rectify the fault.

“Dear esteemed customer, kindly be informed that due to a fault on one of our major power transformers… our technical team is working to ensure power supply is restored. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience,” the notice read.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to make alternative power arrangements while repairs are underway.
