The Federal Government has confirmed that there are no plans to toll the rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, according to the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi. He made this statement on Sunday while addressing journalists after inaugurating the N40 billion Closed Circuit Television Camera Centre on the bridge.
Umahi explained, “We will not engage in construction on this bridge because it would create static load on it. Additionally, since it is located within the city, any construction would introduce numerous bottlenecks, which is why we are not implementing tolls on this bridge.”
He also mentioned that security on the bridge would be managed by the police, emphasizing that the 11-kilometer bridge would have a five-minute response time for emergencies.
“We are allowing the police to take the necessary actions,” the minister stated. He added that a tow van and an ambulance would be required on the bridge for emergency situations.
“Our goal is to ensure that life is smooth and enjoyable for Nigerians; this is what President Bola Tinubu stands for. That is the reason he was brought into office, despite all the challenges,” he concluded.
