The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) plans to resume its suspended nationwide strike on January 12, 2026, if the Federal Government does not meet their longstanding demands.
This decision follows a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on January 2, 2026. NARD President Dr. Muhammad Suleiman announced a renewed action plan called TICS 2.0, emphasizing “No Implementation, No Going Back.” The NEC specified that the strike will begin at midnight on January 12 unless nine key demands are fulfilled, including:
- Reinstatement of five doctors from the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
- Payment of outstanding salary and promotion arrears.
- Full implementation of the professional allowance table.
- Clarification on entry-level placement issues.
- Reintroduction of the Specialist Allowance.
- Resolution of house officers’ salary delays.
- Issuance of membership certificates after Part I.
- Commencement of locum and work-hour regulation committees.
- Resumption of the Collective Bargaining Agreement process.
The one-week window before the strike is intended for consultations and notifications to relevant agencies. NARD has directed its 91 centers to hold congress meetings and press conferences to communicate their grievances and plans to the public.
Center-based protests are scheduled from January 12 to January 16, followed by regional protests and a national demonstration. NARD urges its members to remain united as they advocate for improved welfare and a more effective health system.
