Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has assured Lagosians and visitors that this year’s Eyo Festival will be safe and memorable, scheduled for December 27 at Tafawa Balewa Square.
The festival honors four notable figures: Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, Sir Michael Otedola, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, and Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the festival will celebrate Lagos’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirm its traditions while showcasing the city as a center of excellence and tourism.
The ceremonial procession, Ijade Opa Eyo, features the Opambata, a symbol of authority that will be carried through the city. The last Eyo Festival was held on May 20, 2017, as part of a significant cultural celebration honoring departed kings and chiefs.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to be the Guest of Honour during the festival. Notable attendees at the recent hosting included Abimbola Jakande, Chief Adebola Dosumu, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and other dignitaries.
