The Lagos State Police Command arrested 26-year-old housewife Misturah Bada and her accomplice, 30-year-old Adedamola Daniel, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping to extort N2.5 million from her husband in South Africa.
On November 24, 2025, the victim’s husband reported that armed men had abducted his wife, demanding a ransom that was initially set at N10 million and later reduced to N3 million. He ultimately paid N2.5 million, but she was not released. After her “release,” Bada claimed she was kidnapped by six men in a silver Toyota Venza and had her iPhone 12 Pro Max stolen.
However, inconsistencies in her story led to an investigation. Daniel was arrested on December 3, 2025, with a SIM card used for ransom negotiations. He admitted that Bada had used his SIM card to create a WhatsApp account for the ransom discussions.
When confronted, Bada confessed to faking her kidnapping. The stolen iPhone was later recovered from Yusuf Sodiq, who purchased it from her for N380,000. Lagos Police Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh emphasized the importance of protecting lives and property, warning against false reports that waste security resources. The suspects will be charged in court as investigations continue.
