Married couples have been admonished to make teamwork the fulcrum of their union for it to stand the test of time. The Presiding Bishop of Victory International Church, Ibadan, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, gave the admonition at the solemnization of the holy matrimony between the daughter of the Founder of VLBC International, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, Chidinma Oluwatobiloba Achudume, and Israel Aduragbemi Lawal, held at the Main Auditorium of Victory Life Bible Church International, Abeokuta, on Saturday.
Delivering his sermon entitled “Seven Things A Couple Must Do To Get It Right”, Bishop Adelakun implored the newlyweds to always pray together, eat together, sleep together, play together, have God together, talk together, and discipline together. While explaining the importance of prayer, he said prayer answers all things, adding that with God on their side, they have nothing to worry about.
Taking on the next point, Bishop Adelakun stated that eating is a form of fellowship at the table, advising couples to eat together at least one out of three daily meals. Shedding light on the need for couples to always endeavour to sleep together, he pointed out that doing otherwise would encourage one or both parties sleeping around.
Bishop Adelakun further said playing together helps strengthen the bond and deepen the affection married couples have for each other. While underscoring the pivotal role effective and regular communication plays in marriage, the man of God submitted that rubbing minds together makes the union together smoothly.
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, said he holds the Achudumes in high esteem, urging the couple to imbibe and put to good use the tenets of a successful marriage, and prayed that God perfects all that concerns them both.
The founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, in a video-recorded message, advised the couple to remain committed to their faith, praying that God grants them their heart’s desires.
The highlights of the wedding included the signing of the marriage register, which had the parents of the bride and groom, and two people on both sides as witnesses, as well as the presentation of the marriage certificate done by the Chairperson of the Marriage Committee, VLBC, Pastor (Mrs) Yinka Okuneye.
A traditional wedding ceremony, which preceded the solemnization, showcased the rich cultural heritage of the bride and groom, with vibrant displays of Edo, Delta, and Yoruba traditions. The event was a kaleidoscope of colors, with the dominant red and white hues adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the proceedings. The traditional attire worn by the couple and their families highlighted the beauty of Nigerian culture, with intricate designs and patterns that reflected the unique traditions of each ethnic group.
The wedding reception, held at a popular event centre in Abeokuta, was a grand affair that brought together people from all walks of life, including Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, top government functionaries, community leaders, diplomats, and other distinguished guests. The event was electrified by lively music and dance, with guests showing off their best moves on the dance floor. The venue was tastefully decorated and well-lit, providing an atmosphere of joy and celebration that perfectly captured the spirit of the occasion.
Some of the other dignitaries present included Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by his wife, Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo; former Ogun State Governor; Commissioner for Women Affairs in Ogun State, Honourable Adijat Adeleye; Former First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Martha Udom-Emmanuel; Former Governorship Aspirant in Edo State, Engr Gideon Ikhede; Legal Luminary, Dr Gbenga Adeoye; and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello.
