Justice Oyeyemi Ajayi of the Oyo State High Court has sentenced six individuals to death by hanging for the conspiracy and murder of taxi driver Akeem Shittu.
The defendants—Segun Taiwo, 36; Kehinde Ademola, 46; Yahaya Adeniyi, 45; Chinonso Samson, 41; and Opadotun Michael, 32—were found guilty on two counts. Justice Ajayi sentenced them to 20 years in prison for conspiracy and death by hanging for murder.
According to the prosecution, on April 10, 2024, in Ojoo, Ibadan, the convicts conspired to murder Shittu after he allegedly had an accident with a motorcycle, leading to an argument. Shittu was demanded to pay ₦50,000 for treatment but only offered ₦8,000. He was later overpowered and killed with a machete, with his taxi found near one convict’s wife’s shop.
The offense is punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
