The longstanding leadership crisis plaguing the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has finally been laid to rest. A court ruling has affirmed Bola Ashiru as the substantive Chairman of the association, effectively barring dissenting groups from further agitation. The court’s decision was a resounding endorsement of Ashiru’s leadership, with the judge describing the recent challenges to his authority as a waste of court time and process. The ruling was based on two key points: firstly, that the court cannot sit as an appellate court on the same subject matter of election and administration of the branch association, given the Judgement of Badagry Division; and secondly, that the Federal High Court has exclusive jurisdiction over issues relating to the election and administration of the association. The main contender, Bamgbala Abayomi Adewusi, has been advised against abusing court process and wasting time, as other judgments have vindicated Bola Ashiru as the authentic chairman of ANLCA. This development is expected to bring stability and normalcy back to the association, allowing it to focus on its core objectives and serve its members more effectively. The court’s affirmation of Ashiru’s leadership is seen as a major victory for the association, and stakeholders are hopeful that this will mark a new chapter in the organization’s history. With the leadership crisis resolved, ANLCA can now move forward, focusing on promoting the interests of its members and contributing to the growth and development of Nigeria’s economy.
