Ogbomoso, Oyo State — The Coordinator of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) for Ogbomoso North, Omikunle Olalekan David, has called on President Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, Senator Fatai Buhari (Oyo North), and Hon. Olamiju Alao Akala to urgently intervene in the ongoing road crisis that has paralyzed parts of Ogbomosoland.
For the past three days, a traffic gridlock caused by a petrol tanker accident has left countless truck drivers stranded on the TAKIE-BOWEN-SEMINARY-EMAYO-CARETAKER Federal Road. The gridlock, according to NYC’s coordinator, has caused significant hardship to the community, leading to accidents, loss of lives, injuries, and the stalling of local businesses.
Omikunle explained that the root cause of the issue can be traced to the 2020 rehabilitation of the road, which inadvertently damaged several inner roads, leaving the community trapped in a traffic nightmare. “In just a few days, we’ve seen multiple accidents, and goods, especially perishables, have been ruined. Businesses are losing millions of naira daily,” he said.
The NYC Coordinator emphasized that the 500-meter stretch of road in question is a critical link for the region’s economy but has turned into a hazard due to its current state. He implored federal, state, and local government leaders to step in and resolve the issue before more lives and livelihoods are lost.
“The repair of this road shouldn’t be a massive project compared to other federal roads, but its impact on Ogbomosoland is severe,” Omikunle added. He urged immediate intervention from both the federal and state government, as well as local representatives.
Residents of Ogbomosoland join in the call, pleading for swift action to resolve the crisis and restore safety and normalcy to their community.
